As a member of Bonadio & Co. LLP, a 100-person CPA firm in Rochester, New York, Mr. Hurley has overall responsibility for the firm’s delivery of tax services to its clients. He is a member of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the International Association of Financial Planners. Mr. Hurley became interested in the unique benefits of Section 529 "qualified state tuition programs" in the wake of the 1997 Tax Act and since then has written articles and appeared on television to describe their usefulness for college planning. He has recently appeared in hearings before the IRS in Washington D.C. to provide comments on the proposed regulations issued by the IRS under Code section 529. In addition to a professional interest, Mr. Hurley and his wife Virginia, with two children ages 12 and 9, also have a personal interest in planning for college costs. To date they have established educational savings accounts for their children in qualified state tuition programs in Connecticut, Delaware, Indiana, Iowa, New Hampshire, and New York.
