Joseph F. Hurley CPA
Joseph F. Hurley is a certified public accountant with over 20
years of experience in providing tax planning services to individuals, businesses, and
tax-exempt organizations. As a member of Bonadio & Co. LLP, a 100-person CPA firm in
Rochester, New York, Mr. Hurley has overall responsibility for the firms delivery of
tax services to its clients. He is a member of the New York State Society of Certified
Public Accountants, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the
International Association of Financial Planners. He is a 1978 graduate of Williams
College.
Mr. Hurley became interested in the unique benefits of Section 529
"qualified state tuition programs" in the wake of the 1997 Tax Act and since
then has written articles and appeared on television to describe their usefulness for
college planning. He has recently appeared in hearings before the IRS in Washington D.C.
to provide comments on the proposed regulations issued by the IRS under Code section 529.
In addition to a professional interest, Mr. Hurley and his wife Virginia, with two
children ages 12 and 9, also have a personal interest in planning for college costs. To
date they have established educational savings accounts for their children in qualified
state tuition programs in Connecticut, Delaware, Indiana, Iowa, New Hampshire, and New
